Plush Pantry is born

Dorset catering business is still on track to send love this Valentine's Day, despite the COVID hit hospitality industry woes.

Before the pandemic hit, Piddle Valley-based, Rebecca Green Catering was one of the leading outside and events caterers in England’s South West.  Well known for weddings, corporate, VIP and shoot catering, Rebecca and her team have watched as weddings, county shows, private parties and corporate lunches got postponed or cancelled in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020.

One of the first challenges they faced was how to reschedule the events to the following year.  Amazingly every client rebooked and reserved their chosen date for 2021, and all agreed quotations were honoured.

To keep the kitchen doors open and the business ticking over her business pivoted during the first lockdown, to supply ready-cooked meals to the locals and neighbouring villages. The new business model also meant that she could continue to support her local suppliers and producers, a quality for which Dorset is renowned.

Suppliers such as Foots Eggs, Wyke Farms, Portland Shellfish, Capreolus Foods, Chesil Smokery, Reads of Sherborne, and her local butcher and grocer – some of whom have had to pivot their own businesses to account for the changes in demand to the catering trade and instead rely on sales to the end consumer.

As the summer progressed and critical events were missed, there was an expectation that the hospitality for the winter season would return to something of normality, allowing the workforce to prepare for the shooting lunches, private parties, corporate Christmas lunches and bespoke events.  However, the rise in COVID infection numbers and further Government restrictions meant that it could not.  In the light of this news, the Rebecca Green catering business pivoted a second time, launching a sister company, Plush Pantry Ltd.

Rebecca says, “We were humbled by the support of the local community in the Piddle Valley and our regular clientele in the South West. We discovered that there was a demand for home-cooked meals to be delivered to the door.” 

Plush Pantry champions the Rebecca Green Catering ethos of delicious, nutritious, handmade, homecooked, meals and treats. Delivering to most UK doorsteps and using only the best ingredients from Dorset’s local suppliers, farmers and fishermen and the small, local artisan suppliers and producers.

Rebecca continues, “The hospitality industry contributed over one hundred billion pounds to the UK economy in 2019.  We are a resilient and dynamic industry, it’s just what we do, and the team here will continue to evolve our businesses to suit the demand.  We are essentially a bespoke catering service trying very hard to bring a little joy to people’s lives during this difficult time.

We serve everyone, from those that can’t get out of the house; anyone wanting to send edible gifts; seasonal or special occasion hampers; corporate meals and nibbles for Zoom meetings or game pies and seasonal feasts.  We are excited to have just launched our Valentine’s three-course menu and our Racing Calendar Experience menu.  There is no cooking involved – just reheating the meals that our talented chefs have lovingly prepared, and enjoy with friends and family, in person or over Zoom.”
